The Mental & the Physical
Day 9: For the love of Gosling, my pants are TIGHTER.
Today started off pretty great. Woke up, jumped out of bed, and got ready for work. Maybe the tiger blood is showing up a little early because I had a lot of energy. I did notice my rings were tighter so I’m guessing I’m still adjusting to the new source of fuel but my good mood didn’t let me focus on it too long. On the way to work I felt it was necessary to share my good mood with everyone, so I had the windows down, sunroof open, and blasted a little Artic Monkeys.
Annndddd… then it went down from there. The end of the month is a very busy time at my work so people were constantly pestering me all day. I barely had enough time to scarf down food between calls and emails. When I got home I received more bad news from my Mom about another family member. By the end of the night, I was so mentally drained, I just wanted to crawl into my bed and hide. Which is exactly what I did.
I have no doubt it would have been worse if I turned to comfort food like I normally do in these situations. Emotional eater much? In addition to my mental challenges, I would have felt heavy and sluggish physically. Good thing I was already doing the Whole30 when a day like this rolled around.
I won’t bore you with a picture of my actual breakfast because it was the same as on Day 8. I did add a little bit of fun to my ride into work with some coconut tea and coconut milk. Looks like a latte doesn’t it? I actually had someone at work stop me going “OMG! Aren’t you doing the Whole30??? Why are you drinking coffee and milk?!?!?!” Thank you Whole30 police. You did not catch me in a moment of weakness. I was legit. Now please go back to minding your own business.
Around 2pm I finally had enough time to eat my lunch. In about 5 minutes flat I shoved a plate of shrimp salad into my mouth. It was delicious and by far one of the most satisfying meals to date
For dinner I broke out Well Fed 2 and made some Greek burgers and Gyro sauce. Alongside I made some okra and sliced up some fresh figs.
People… why did no one tell me how magical fresh figs were? Until now the only fig exposure I had was fig newtons and those are gross. Fresh figs are amazing. And they’re in season now. If you haven’t tried them, do yourself a favor and track them down and eat them straight from the container. Okay you can wash them first if you must, but seriously, you don’t need to do anything else to them to make them delicious.
Tuesdays for me have totally become a rest day. There are quite a few other days during the week where I double up on workouts: running in the morning and a Zumba or Body Pump class in the evening. Rest days are just as important as exercise days when you intensely exercise consistently. Your body NEEDS time to heal properly. So given that scenario, I’m proud of the meager 2,767 steps I accrued for the day just doing my normal activities.
Day 10 is tomorrow! We’re a third of the way there!
